6 Reasons to Re-Register as a Referee for 2023/2024

As the 2022/2023 Season draws to a close it’s time to start thinking about renewing your Referee registration on COMET. Referee registrations for this season end on the 31st of May 2023. Here’s 6 Top Reasons to get registered on the 1st of June and ready to go for 2023/2024.

Referees’ Feedback Valued

In May 2022 the FAW surveyed Referees in Wales for the very first time and released the results back to match officials to be as transparent as possible. Referees’ feedback from the 2022 survey has already played a key role in shaping the FAW’s work in the last 12 months. The Association will therefore be surveying Referees again this summer to make sure you have your voice heard and that changes continue to be made to improve Welsh football for Referees over the coming season.

National Referee Respect Campaign

The 2022 Match Officials Survey made it clear that disrespect towards Referees can be a drawback of being a match official. Many match officials wanted to see stronger support from the FAW and Area Associations to change player, coach, and spectator behaviour towards Referees. Therefore, the FAW will launch a National Respect Campaign during the 2023/2024 season to improve football participant behaviour towards Referees. The Respect Campaign will include digital content, real-life activations, and significant policy changes to ensure behaviour towards Referees improves.

Referee Kit More Accessible Than Ever

Another key piece of feedback from match officials in the 2022 Survey was that Referee Kit was difficult to source. The FAW and Area Associations have therefore struck a new kit deal with Macron which means Referee Kit is now available at five physical locations across Wales. The kit is available with all Area Association badges for Referees at Level 4 and with the FAW badge for Referees at Level 3.
